About
Waterfront Sports & Education Academy
Waterfront is a Leicester based charity using the power of sport, boxing and education to improve life chances for children, young people and adults experiencing disadvantage.
Founded in the heart of the community (1998), we exist to tackle inequality and support healthier, safer and more connected neighbourhoods across Leicester.
Our vision
We want everyone in Leicester and Leicestershire to have the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Who we support
The people we are here for.
- Children and young people facing barriers such as low confidence, exclusion from education, or involvement with the justice system.
- Families experiencing financial hardship or social isolation.
- Adults looking to improve their wellbeing, build routine and develop positive community connections.
What we do
Six strands of work.
- Structured boxing and multi-sport sessions
- Targeted mentoring and personal development for vulnerable young people
- Community sport that promotes health, confidence and positive behaviour
- Education, life skills and employability support
- School-based interventions that improve engagement, attendance and behaviour
- Holiday activities providing nutritious meals, safe spaces and enriching experiences
Our approach
How the work is done.
We take a holistic, outcome-driven approach that combines physical activity with emotional support, youth work and positive role models. Working in partnership with schools, local authorities, National Governing Bodies, community organisations, health providers and funders, we make sure our support reaches the people who need it most.
Waterfront supports children, young people and adults to:
- Improve their physical and mental wellbeing
- Build confidence, self-esteem and motivation
- Reduce antisocial behaviour and risk-taking
- Re-engage with education, training and positive opportunities
- Develop stronger relationships and lasting community connections
